The Season of Wait & See and the Gift That Keeps on Giving
Thanks to our friend, Punxsutawney Phil, coffee consumers in the North are left waiting to see what the next few weeks of weather will bring. Many in the Northeast are still digging out from more than a foot of snow, while those of us in the Atlanta area have swung between subfreezing temperatures and spring‑like 70s.
Adding to the chaotic nature of the recent weather patterns, we were hit with another round of tariff whiplash. The Supreme Court overturned the IEEPA duties but declined to rule on whether previously collected funds must be returned, passing that decision to the lower courts and ushering in a new wave of legal fees as companies prepare to file suit. Almost immediately, the administration imposed new tariffs, this time under a different legal authority, starting at 10% on all global products and jumping to 15% the following morning. Fortunately, agricultural products like coffee received exemptions similar to those under the IEEPA tariffs.
