Matt’s coffee journey began behind the espresso bar of a small Northern California roastery. What started as a student job quickly became a lifelong pursuit that would take him from coffee farms in East Africa to U.S. boardrooms and the trading desks that connect them.
Early in his career, Matt worked as a trainer for one of specialty coffee’s pioneering companies, where he developed a deep belief in the power of exceptional coffee and meaningful service. Over the years, he worked closely with farmers and exporters throughout East Africa before returning to the U.S. as a Senior Specialty Trader. He later helped strengthen sourcing strategy and sustainability initiatives for one of America’s most recognized coffee brands.
Throughout his career, Matt has focused on building transparent, resilient supply chains and long term partnerships between producers and roasters. In addition to leading specialty coffee trading teams, he has remained deeply involved in the industry through service and advocacy.
Matt is a past President of the Pacific Coast Coffee Association (PCCA), a founding board member of the Coffee Coalition for Racial Equity (CCRE), and currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI). He lives in Atlanta with his wife and three children and still believes coffee can change the world.
