The Story Behind Gera Grade 2 Natural Atoma Tuma Tesso

Gera has earned growing recognition for producing clean, expressive washed coffees that highlight the unique character of western Ethiopia. This Grade 2 natural lot was produced by smallholder farmers delivering cherry to Atoma Coffee Washing Station in the Tuma Tesso community of Gera.

Coffee delivered to Atoma Station is carefully separated and documented by Kebele (meaning neighborhood / community), supporting traceability and quality control throughout the supply chain. Smallholder producers deliver ripe cherry that is processed shortly after arrival to preserve freshness and cup quality.

For natural processing, cherries are sorted to remove underripe and defective fruit before being placed on raised African drying beds. During drying, the coffee is continuously rotated and monitored to promote even moisture reduction and preserve quality. Depending on weather conditions, drying typically takes approximately 19 to 22 days before the coffee is stored in hermetic bags for quality preservation.
