The Story Behind Moanti Grade A ML

Papua New Guinean Virgin Mountain Gr A/X Green Coffee Beans from Mercon Specialty

Behind every great coffee is a network of people dedicated to bringing it to life. For Moanti AX, that story begins with Mrs. Moanti Ise, whose commitment to supporting coffee-growing communities has helped connect smallholder farmers across Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands to the global specialty coffee market.

Working throughout the remote Henganofi District, Mrs. Moanti established the Dunattina buying network, creating collection points and small warehouses that give local producers reliable access to market. Since 2012, she has partnered with exporter Monpi to consistently deliver exceptional coffees while supporting the livelihoods of farming families throughout the region.

The coffee is grown by smallholder producers on farms typically measuring less than one hectare, where families carefully hand-pick only ripe cherries before processing them with eco-pulpers and drying the parchment in the sun. The coffee is then transported to the Moanti dry mill, where it is prepared for export with the attention to quality that has become a hallmark of the region.

Grown in the fertile valley surrounding the Doti Wara River, rich sandy loam soils and the cool climate of the Eastern Highlands provide ideal conditions for producing expressive coffees with remarkable clarity and character. The result is a vibrant cup that reflects both the unique terroir of Papua New Guinea and the dedication of the producers who cultivate it.
