The Story Behind Polished Grade 1 Robusta

Vietnam’s coffee landscape is built on smallholder agriculture, with most farms averaging between one and three hectares. Across the country’s Central Highlands, producers deliver freshly harvested cherries to centralized mills, where coffees are processed and prepared for export.

Produced in Lam Dong Province, this Grade 1 wet-polished robusta reflects Vietnam’s continued investment in quality-focused robusta production. Grown between 700 and 800 meters above sea level, the coffee benefits from the fertile volcanic soils and favorable growing conditions that have made Vietnam one of the world’s leading robusta-producing origins.

Following processing and drying, the coffee undergoes a wet-polishing stage designed to remove residual silverskin and surface material from the green beans. This additional preparation step creates a cleaner appearance, more uniform screen size distribution, and improved consistency for roasting and blending applications. Wet-polished robustas are typically produced to stricter defect and grading standards than conventional commercial robusta lots.

The resulting cup offers a heavy body, balanced structure, and clean finish with notes of dark cocoa, roasted nuts, and brown sugar, making it particularly well suited for espresso blends, cold brew, and modern robusta-focused roasting programs.
