The Story Behind Decaf Grade 1 Washed SWP

Peru Cerro Blanco Gr1 Organic Green Coffee Beans from StoneX Specialty Coffee

Sourced from the highland regions of northern Peru, this Grade 1 Washed Conventional coffee reflects the foundation of the country’s smallholder production system, now offered as a carefully decaffeinated lot. Grown across regions such as Cajamarca, Amazonas, and Piura, these coffees are cultivated at elevations where cool climates and mountainous terrain support slow cherry maturation and consistent quality. The result is a dependable, clean profile built from the combined work of many small farms, rather than a single estate, representing the scale and structure of Peru’s export market.

After harvest, the coffee follows a traditional fully washed process, with cherries depulped, fermented, and dried to preserve clarity and balance. The green coffee is then sent for Swiss Water Process decaffeination, a chemical free method that uses only water, temperature, and carbon filtration to remove caffeine while maintaining the coffee’s original flavor compounds. This approach removes up to 99.9% of caffeine without the use of solvents, allowing the intrinsic character of the coffee to remain intact.

This lot highlights the evolution of decaffeinated coffee within specialty supply chains. By starting with high quality Grade 1 material and applying a gentle, water based decaffeination method, the final cup retains the structure and familiarity of a classic Peruvian profile, often showing notes of cocoa, mild fruit, and a smooth, balanced body. It is a practical and reliable offering for roasters seeking a decaf that performs like a traditional washed coffee while maintaining the integrity of its origin.
