The Story Behind Gera Grade 1 Washed Telila Station Filo

Gera is an emerging specialty coffee region in western Ethiopia, producing coffees known for their clarity, sweetness, and vibrant acidity. This Grade 1 washed lot was produced by smallholder farmers in the Filo community, delivering cherry to Telila Coffee Washing Station in the Gera region.

Coffee arriving at Telila Station is carefully separated and documented by Kebele (meaning neighborhood / community), supporting traceability and quality control throughout the supply chain. Smallholder producers contribute ripe cherry that is processed shortly after delivery to preserve quality and maintain lot integrity.

For washed processing, cherries are pulped and sorted before fermentation. At Telila Station, coffee is typically fermented for approximately 24 to 36 hours before being washed, graded, and transferred to drying tables for hand sorting. The parchment is then dried on raised beds for approximately 12 to 14 days, with careful management throughout the drying process to protect quality and promote even moisture reduction.
