The Story Behind Sumatra Mandheling DP FTO

Sumatra Mandheling is among Indonesia's most distinctive coffees, celebrated for its rich body, layered complexity, and unmistakable cup profile.

This coffee is produced by smallholder farmers across the highlands of North Sumatra, where fertile volcanic soils, tropical climates, and high elevations provide ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. Generations of producers have refined traditional farming and processing methods that contribute to the region's unique identity and consistently high-quality coffees.

After harvest, the coffee is processed using Indonesia's traditional wet-hulled method. Cherries are pulped, fermented, and partially dried before the parchment is removed while the beans still retain a high moisture content. The coffee is then dried to export standards, producing the distinctive blue-green appearance for which Sumatran coffees are known.
