The Story Behind Jimma Grade 1 Natural

Jimma is one of Ethiopia's most historically important coffee producing regions, known for coffees that combine sweetness, fruit character, and depth. This Grade 1 natural lot is sourced through Tokuma Coffee Farmers and represents coffee produced by smallholder farms in Gomma Woreda, Beshasha Kebele, within the Jimma region.

One of the producers contributing to this program is Jemil Abazinab Abadilbi, a second generation coffee farmer whose family has cultivated coffee in the region for generations. Her farm spans approximately 5.15 hectares at altitudes ranging from 1,900 to 2,000 masl, where she grows the Ethiopian variety 74110.

For natural processing, ripe cherries are hand sorted before being dried on raised African beds. The cherries are continuously rotated and carefully monitored to promote even drying and preserve quality. Drying typically takes 19 to 22 days, allowing the coffee to develop sweetness and fruit character while maintaining clarity in the cup.

Through farmer registration, lot separation, and traceability practices, coffees are tracked back to specific communities and producer groups, supporting transparency throughout the supply chain.
