The Story Behind SHG EP
This fully washed SHG coffee comes from Solcafe, a cooperative of 180 smallholder producers farming in the Opalaca mountain range of Western Honduras. Their farms are located between 1,300 and 1,800 meters above sea level across 11 rural communities in Lempira and Intibucá. The surrounding region is known for its natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and high elevation terrain that supports exceptional coffee.
Solcafe was established in 2019 by 37 producers with a shared goal of improving quality of life for coffee farming families. Today, each member tends an average of four hectares and contributes to a collective annual production of over 6,700 kilograms of exportable green coffee.
Harvested cherries are selectively handpicked and processed on each farm. After pulping and fermenting, the parchment is washed and dried on patios or in greenhouses. Solar drying is used for the majority of the coffee, with frequent raking to ensure uniform drying and quality preservation.
Thanks to the high altitude, nutrient-rich soil, and temperate climate, this coffee delivers a clean and vibrant cup. Expect notes of citrus and stone fruit with a smooth, honey-like finish that reflects both the landscape and the care behind each harvest.
